General Information

REX Airlines has been appointed the official airline for the conference. A special 35 % discounted airfare has been negotiated for delegates and partners travelling to Albury. Call REX Airlines on 13 17 13 and quote ‘STAR PROFILE REX TASA’ in order to take advantage of this offer. Conditions apply.
Breakfast
Conference Hotel guests receive a complimentary continental breakfast at Sambell’s Restaurant on campus. For those not staying in the Conference Hotel, breakfast is available for $8 at Sambell’s Restaurant. Self-catering facilities are available in the lodges and cottages.
Bus Transfers to and from Albury airport - click here for more information
TASA’04 has arranged conference bus transfers to and from Albury airport for selected flights at a cost of $25 per person per trip. Taxis cost about $80 for the same journey. Journey takes about 35-40 minutes.
Bus Transfers to and from Wangaratta station - click here for more information
Bus transfers to and from Wangaratta station are purchased with your train ticket. The V line bus will deposit you at Beechworth Bus Depot. For selected train arrivals and departures, and providing you give the Conference Manager details of your train arrival by 1 December, you will be picked up at the Beechworth Bus Depot and taken to the Conference Centre at LTU Beechworth. However the taxi fare will not be expensive.
Child Care
Beechworth Community Child Care Centre on the LTU campus site (in walking distance of all conference venues) can be booked by TASA’04 conference delegates. The fee is $45 per day. Conference delegates should make bookings and cancellations themselves. The telephone number is 03 5728 2378.
Child Care: Evening Babysitting
After hours baby-sitting can be booked through the receptionist at the International Hotel, phone 03 5720 8050.
Child's Cot
A child's cot may be booked, please indicate your requirements in the 'special needs' section of the Online Registration form.
Conference Bus
A local conference bus, at no cost to delegates, will provide transport to and from Beechworth and the campus Conference Centre (the pick-up and drop-off point). There will be late afternoon trips on Monday, a morning and evening trip on Tuesday before and after the tour buses leave and a number of trips Wednesday to Saturday in the morning, lunch-time and evening to link with conference events. Family members are invited to take the bus as required.
Conference Dinner
The Conference Dinner, with wine and entertainment, will be held in the International Hotel on LTU Beechworth Campus on Thursday 9 December 8pm-12 midnight. The cost is included in the delegate registration fee.
Conference Handbook
The conference handbook will be available in delegates’ conference bag at Registration. The conference handbook will contain the conference program by day and by section, abstracts and a list of delegates and their organisational affiliations plus a list of restaurants, hotels and cafes in Beechworth and surrounding area & other useful information.
Conference Program
Conference sessions will be held on Thursday 9 December and Friday 10 December 9am to 5.30pm and Saturday morning 11 December until lunchtime. Registered delegates may request a draft program from the Conference Convenor from about mid-November.
Disability Needs
All conference venues have good provision for the disabled. Please record your special disability needs on the On Line registration form.
Food Needs
The conference caterer is well-equipped to provide both a range of vegetarian food and special meals for those who are on special diets. Breakfast & lunch will include yogurt & fruit. Please record your special food needs on the On Line Registration Form.
Gym
A gym will be open for delegates’ use in the International Hotel from 7am to 10pm . It also has a sauna.
Location of Conference
The conference is being held at La Trobe University's Beechworth campus. Beechworth is a small, attractive and historic gold rush town in the heart of Victoria 's best wine and food country, located in the foothills of the Victorian Alps. It is about 35 minutes drive from Albury, Wodonga and Wangaratta, 3 hours from Melbourne, 6-7 hours from Sydney, 4-5 hours from Canberra and 9-10 hours from Adelaide. The LTU Campus is to the east of the town up a hill. Go to the centre of the town and take the eastward road towards Stanley : the campus gateway, with an imposing lodge on the right, is about 200 m. past the Stanley turnoff – less than 1km from the town.
The LTU Beechworth campus was formerly a mental hospital called Mayday Hills. A tour of the buildings will be a special feature of TASA’04’s Health Day. The campus is set on large and beautifully maintained grounds. A conference bus will ferry delegates between the campus, motels and some B&Bs in the town. Conference proceedings will be held in a number of fully modernised buildings on campus. Ample residential accommodation is available in the Conference Hotel and in self-catering lodges and cottages on site. Conference discounts at local motels and B&Bs have also been arranged for conference delegates – check the Accomodation section of this site for details.
Lunch, Morning and Afternoon Tea
Lunches, morning and afternoon teas on Thursday 9 and Friday 10 December and morning tea on Saturday 11 December are included in the cost of registration.
Meals
Meals, apart from those being served for registered conference delegates, are available from 7am until 11pm at delegates’ own expense at Sambell’s Restaurant.
Parking
Ample off-street parking is available on LTU Beechworth campus.
Photocopying
Photocopying is available for 10 cents a page at the International Hotel from 7am to midnight . Delegates presenting papers are requested to bring copies of their papers with them.
Registration Desk
The Conference Registration Desk will be at the Convention Centre (opposite the gates to LTU Beechworth campus) and will be staffed Monday 3-7, Tuesday 8-6, Wednesday 7-9, Thursday 7.30-6, Friday 7.30-6, Saturday 7.30-2.
Swimming pool
A swimming pool is available on campus for delegates and family members from 8am to 8pm .

Telephones
Mobile phone coverage is good for Telstra, moderate for Optus if you travel to the edge of Beechworth township, and not available for Vodaphone. Public telephones are not available on LTU Beechworth campus, but there are some in the township of Beechworth . Conference Hotel rooms have telephones and the lodges and cottages have telephones with access to local calls.

Tennis
A tennis court is available for delegates’ use on campus. Racquets and balls are available at no cost from the International Hotel receptionist.
Weather
In December in Beechworth days average 25 degrees C and nights average 11 degrees C.
Welcome BBQ by the Bandstand
On the opening night of the conference, Wednesday 8 December, a Welcome BBQ by the Bandstand (on LTU Beechworth campus) will be held from 7.30pm to 10pm (the food will be served 8-9.30pm with some kept aside for late-comers). The cost is included in the delegate registration fee.
Wine and Cheese Party
A pre-dinner Wine Tasting will be held on Thursday 9 December from 6.30 to 8pm . Chambers Rosewood Winery will be sponsoring the conference and Bill Chambers will give a short talk on wine. The cost is included in the delegate registration fee.
Women’s Cocktail Party
On the opening night of the conference, Wednesday 8 December, a Women’s Cocktail Party will be held at the Bijou Theatre foyer (on LTU Beechworth campus) from 6.30pm to 8pm . The cost is included in the delegate registration fee.
