TASA - The Australian Sociology Association

TASA Thematic Group on Mobilities

Aims and objectives:

The key aim of the Mobilities thematic group is to build and support the engagement of Australian sociologists with leisure, tourism, travel and sport research. To support this aim, the core objectives of the thematic group are to:

  • foster the development of existing and new sociological perspectives on leisure, tourism, travel and sport
  • encourage and promote quality theoretical and empirical research across a broad range of ‘mobility’ areas
  • provide a forum for communication and collaboration of sociologists working in the field
  • support the addition of sociological voices to contemporary and emerging discourse on leisure, tourism, travel and sport in Australia
  • help achieve a sustainable leisure, tourism, travel and sport industry that takes into account social issues
