Join us at 12:30pm (AEDT) on 19th February 2026 for this month's TASA Thursday Session which will explore: Schooling misogyny: Examining the influence of the manosphere in education settings.
In this session, Stephanie Wescott and Steve Roberts explore how misogyny is being reshaped, normalised and reproduced across through the cultural and institutional norms of school contexts. Drawing on their research on manosphere-related harms in schools, they examine how school-related gender-based violence is often minimised, misnamed or made invisible through institutional language, policy and everyday practice. The talk traces connections between online misogynist ideologies and offline harm, highlighting the experiences of women teachers navigating hostile institutional spaces.

Stephanie Wescott
Dr Stephanie Wescott is a feminist academic whose work is driving systemic change in how schools and their communities understand and respond to gendered violence and misogyny.Her research is interested in the epistemic currents that govern our lives and the relations of power and discourse that shape them. This includes epistemological masculinist supremacy and violence, and how these inform the patriarchal social arrangement.
Steven Roberts
Fellow member Steven Roberts is Professor of Sociology and currently the Interim Head of School of Social Sciences. Steve is an internationally recognised expert in research in two areas: i) changes and continuities in boys and men's masculinity practices, and; ii) inequalities in young people’s transitions to adulthood. The former includes boys and men’s engagement with trisky drinking; sexting; the manosphere; computer gaming; emotionality; violence; domestic labour; paid care work; compulsory and post-compulsory education.
