From: TASA

Dear  ~~first_name~~

I hope this email finds you well.

We are writing to share a number of important updates relating specifically to our Indigenous members in preparation for the 2026 TASA Conference, which will be held from 23–27 November at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Kabi Kabi Country.

Firstly, applications for the Indigenous Bursary remain open until Monday 15 JuneThe Indigenous Bursary is intended to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members to attend and participate in the conference.

Further information about eligibility and how to apply is available via the orange button below.

TASA 2026 Yarning Circle

We are also pleased to advise that this year’s conference will again include a Yarning Circle event.

We are seeking expressions of interest from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Early Career Researchers and Postgraduate Students who may be interested in participating in a Yarning Circle discussion on the following theme:

Can Australian sociology move beyond observing inequality to actively support structural transformation under Closing the Gap?

This discussion connects closely with the conference theme, Resistance & Revolution, with a focus on Indigenous resistance, resurgence, sovereignty, and self-determination.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Penny Toth, TASA Event Manager, at events@tasa.org.au.

Please note that the Indigenous bursary may be used to support participation in the Yarning Circle, not only paper presentations.
