The interrelated values of integrity, equity and transformation have been central to the work of TASA since its inception. However, COVID-19 and the impact of the Jobs Ready Graduate Bill have prompted the Executive to review TASA’s mission, aims and values. While both of these challenges presents the discipline of sociology with opportunities, the latter presents a narrative of declining relevance and impact of disciplines within the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. It is important for our discipline to take up the challenge of keeping the sociological discourse going, particularly at a time when the world appears to require a continuous reorientation. TASA’s commitment to excellence and our mission to promote sociology and serve sociologists in their work asserts the disciplines relevance and provides a platform for growth and impact.
