May 2021

Hi everyone

Hope you are well :)

Update from April's meeting
Another great discussion, covering a range of topics including the benefits of having data nerds inside the community partner organisations we work with; using routine data to understand impacts of COVID on client demographics; tailoring service responses based on routine data available. We also talked about the power of the client's voice; but also the importance of being prepared to take on board! We also touched on the gendered Budget2021 and women's movement, Anrows' new evaluation guide for DFV programs and the need for creating more job opportunities for entry level industry-based research assistant type roles. We discussed how frustrating grant writing can be and how small seeding grants can make a big difference for budding researchers. Thanks for the yarn :)

We will circulate a blurb closer to the date. As a broad outline, Catherine will discuss the challenges of working across theoretical, academic and applied research drawing on examples from her work, and touch on translation/engagement/impact related matters.

Please fill out very short survey re your preferences for TASA Conference 2021 'pivot'

As you may have seen in TASA communications, unfortunately the large face-to-face TASA conference in Canberra will not go ahead this year. Instead, TASA will be running smaller events throughout the month of November. I am keen to hear you about what you want so fill out the SHORT survey indicating preferences. We can apply for up to $1000 to assist with event planning (but cannot be used for catering or venue hire).
