Exciting Opportunities

Dear ~~first_name~~,

The submission portal for TASA 2022 will be closing in 13 days! If you haven't already, I strongly encourage you to write your 200 word abstract and submit it as soon as possible. If you experience any technical issues with the submissions portal, please email our professional conference organisers Sham and Sabrina: tasa2022@arinex.com.au.

We are very excited to be involved in the inaugural Congress of HASS event (see further below for a list of other participating HASS associations). Given the increasing difficulties that our members face in being able to carve off time for conferences, as well as wanting to reduce our footprint, the Congress of HASS offers us a more sustainable conference model and a perfect solution for TASA members to share the same time and space with sociology colleagues and delegates of other HASS associations.

The Congress of HASS is a groundbreaking opportunity for giving sociology a louder voice, and affording members the chance to expand networks, be a part of an enriched conference experience, build research connections and explore future study, research and employment opportunities. We hope you can be a part of those experiences and can join us in representing a strong sociology voice, as part of HASS, to the wider community.

TASA Conference Bursaries

If funding is a barrier to your conference attendance, please review and apply for one of TASA's bursary opportunities. The bursaries include a complimentary conference registration and some travel funding (based on your residential location).

I am extremely happy to report that there will be more of each bursary awarded this year as a result of not being able to host an in-person conference in 2020 or 2021. The exact number of bursaries on offer won't be known until early August (post TASA's budget confirmation for the 2022/2023 financial year). For now, if relevant, I encourage you to review and apply for one of the below bursaries.
Note, the application deadline for all bursaries is June 15th.

CHASS Professional Development Progam

We are very proud that a sociologist, current immediate past president Dan Woodman, is behind the inaugural Australian Congress of HASS. Dan has been cultivating the idea for at least 4 years and has spent endless hours and an abundance of energy to bring the event to fruition. Aside from Dan's TASA Executive role, he is also the current president of CHASS. As a part of that latter role,  Dan is developing a professional development program, for the Congress of HASS week, that will be available free to TASA members. The event themes haven't been locked in but they will likely have a focus on marketing your HASS degree, expanding your knowledge on how to make industry links related to your area of expertise, and hearing employers share why they value HASS graduates. We will share the exact event details with you as soon as they become available.
